Why can I get compensation from Finnair?

Finnair must offer its passengers financial compensation in the event of delays, cancellations or overbookings according to EU Regulation 261/2004. This legislation protects the rights of air passengers and ensures that airlines are liable when their errors cause inconvenience to passengers.

Your rights in case of cancelled or delayed flights

According to EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers are entitled to compensation for delays and cancellations caused by non-extraordinary circumstances. This also applies to Finnair flights.

Compensation for cancellations

If your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, you may be entitled to compensation. Compensation is calculated based on how much later you arrived at your destination.

Remember, if Finnair has informed you of the cancellation more than 14 days before departure, unfortunately you cannot claim compensation, but you are still entitled to a full refund of your ticket.

Compensation for delays

You can claim compensation if your Finnair flight is more than 3 hours late on arrival.

However, to be eligible for compensation, it requires that the delay was within Finnair's control and thus not due to extraordinary circumstances, such as extremely bad weather, terrorist threats etc.

How much compensation can I get?

The amount of compensation depends on the length of the delay and the distance of the flight. To make it easier to understand, we have created a table that gives an overview of the EU 261/2004 rules for the amount of compensation:

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common reasons for claim rejections from Finnair?

There are several reasons why a claim may be denied by Finnair. Some of the most common reasons include bad weather or strikes by airport staff. Situations like these are obviously beyond Finnair's control, but it can be difficult to assess whether the delay or cancellation was actually avoidable.

If you're unsure if you're entitled to compensation even though your claim has been denied, you can always file a case with us and we'll assess whether there are grounds for the denial or if you are entitled to compensation.

Can children get compensation?

Yes, all passengers with their own seat and ticket, including children, are entitled to compensation.

What do I do if Finnair refuses to pay compensation?

If Finnair rejects your case, we will assess whether there are grounds to take it to court. We handle everything at no financial risk to you.

What does it cost to get help from Refundmore?

We work on a "No Cure No Pay" principle, which means that it costs you nothing to open a case with us, and if we don't succeed in getting you money, we don't charge you for our work.

However, if we win your case, we take a fee from the winnings.

How can I contact Finnair to claim my compensation?

You can contact Finnair directly via their website or phone number. Most airlines have a procedure on how to contact them regarding compensation.
